COMPETITION RULES

APPENDIX A - COMPETITION RULES (REVISED 2013)

GENERAL

  1. For the Seasonal Competitions each member will elect each year the category under which they wish to enter  i.e. Advanced or Club category.  This nomination will be made with the first projected digital image(s), mono print(s) and colour print(s) entered each year and will operate for the whole of that year's competitions (the member does not necessarily need to be in the same category for projected digital images, mono prints and colour prints).
  2. Any projected image (e.g. slide or digital image) or print that has previously been placed in a Competition (including HC) will be ineligible for entry in that Competition in subsequent years.
  3. All entries submitted should originate from the personal work of the entrant, using light falling on photosensitive medium.
  4. Successful projected digital images or prints may be held for various interclub competitions including the Northern Counties Federation, unless the member wishes otherwise.
  5. Pictures from the club competitions may be used on the club website in low definition form unless the member states otherwise.
  6. All entries to be handed to the Competition Secretary not later than the dates stated.

PROJECTED DIGITAL IMAGES (PDI), REQUIRED FORMAT

  1. Pictures must be submitted as JPEG files not exceeding 900KB.
  2. The Image Size should be no more than 1050 pixels high x up to 1400 pixels wide.
  3. Image Files are to have a file title comprising the member's number and title of the picture separated by an underscore (i.e.  27_Tynemouth.jpg ).
  4. Image Files may be handed in on a CD or transferred to a specified area on the club computer or, subject to consent by the Competition Secretary, may be submitted by email.

PRINTS

  1. Prints may be home or commercially processed, the choice of mounts must be entirely the work of the competitor.  Where applicable processing of the negative or transparency may be done commercially.
  2. All prints shall be mounted and no mount shall exceed 20" x 16".  All prints must state on the back the member’s number and the title of the print.
  3. A monochrome print is one which consists of one colour only in addition to the colour of the print base.

 PRINT RULES (SEASONAL COMPETITIONS)

  1. Members may submit up to six prints in each section (i.e. 6 colour and 6 monochrome) during the season, a maximum of three prints (per section) in any competition.
  2. The Competition Judge will award 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th places plus HC’s in each section.  Championship marks will be awarded on the basis of  7 pts for 1st  through to 2 pts for HC plus 1 point for all other entries.
  3. The Photographer of the Year in each section (monochrome & colour) of each category (Advanced & Club) will be decided on the total marks credited to the prints submitted by each member.
  4. A Judge will select from the twelve winning entries of the season,   i.e. Club and Advanced, Mono and Colour in the three competitions, the "Print of the Year".

PROJECTED DIGITAL IMAGES (SEASONAL COMPETITIONS)

  1. The subject matter for competitions will be decided at the Annual General Meeting.
  2. Members may submit up to six images during the season, a maximum of three images in any competition.
  3. The Competition Judge will award 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th places plus HC’s in each section.  Championship marks will be awarded on the basis of  7 pts for 1st  through to 2 pts for HC plus 1 point for all other entries.
  4. The Photographer of the Year in each category (Advanced & Club) will be decided on the total marks credited to the images submitted by each member.
  5. A Judge will select from the six winning entries of the season,   i.e. Club and Advanced in the three competitions, the "Projected Digital Image of the Year".

PRESIDENTS TROPHY

  1. Members may submit one entry of 3 projected digital images linked by a theme, to be judged as a set.  The Judge to award 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th places.
  2. The subject for the theme will be set by the Immediate Past President at each A.G.M.

THE ALLAN POTTS NATURE TROPHY COMPETITION

  1. A competition for projected digital images depicting the “Natural World”  i.e. Nature in its broadest context, including items such as rock structure, cloud formations, etc.  The pictures should portray natural items not man made features.  Man-made items are only acceptable if they are not the prime subject in the picture and have a direct bearing on the nature subject being illustrated.
  2. An entry consists of 3 projected digital images to be judged as a set.  The set should either show diversity of subject matter or develop a single subject theme with all three pictures contributing information.
  3. The judge to award 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th places.
